Bristol Heart Institute wins coveted national award

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trusts newly opened has won a prestigious Building Better Healthcare award for Best Use of Visual Art in Healthcare, having been shortlisted in three categories.  The two other categories, for Best Hospital Design and Best Interior Design, both received commendations.

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with the Bristol Enterprise Network and SETsquared Business Acceleration Centre, is inviting small- to medium-sized enterprises to take part in a pioneering advice clinic. The Healthcare Business Clinic is being held at the Trusts headquarters, in Marlborough Street, Bristol, on Monday 9 November to provide a forum for companies to receive expert advice and strategic direction from NHS and business experts.

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust receives an excellent and a good rating in annual health check

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust has received ˜excellent and ˜good ratings in the Care Quality Commissions annual health check (for the year April 2008 to March 2009).

The Care Quality Commissions annual health check is the most comprehensive assessment of performance undertaken in the NHS, providing a detailed picture of the state of public healthcare in England. Every one of the countrys 392 NHS trusts is involved.

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust: Declaration of compliance for safeguarding children

Monitor, the independent regulator for NHS Foundation Trusts, recently wrote to all Foundation Trusts requiring them to publish a declaration of compliance against five minimum criteria.  The Board of the University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is assured that the following requirements are in place in line with the recommendations of the Care Quality Commission to ensure that systems and processes are in place to safeguard children and young people:


1. The Trust meets the statutory requirement with regard to carrying out of Criminal Record Bureau checks;

Study of new swine flu vaccines looks for children from local area to take part

Paediatricians at Bristol Childrens Vaccine Centre are looking for 170 children to take part in a study of the two swine ˜flu vaccines due to be used in the UK this winter.

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to officially open the Bristol Heart Institute

The Princess Royal will officially open the new £61m Bristol Heart Institute (BHI), part of University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, on Monday 12 October.

The BHI, which opened to patients in May, brings cardiology and cardiac surgery services under one roof, allowing staff to provide more seamless care for heart patients.  Designed in partnership with patients, staff and the public, the BHI delivers a full range of diagnostic and interventional treatments for heart conditions to the people of Bristol, the South West and beyond.

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust response to HPA infection rate figures

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is pleased that the Health Protection Agency figures show a reduction in the number of cases of clostridium difficile (C. diff) and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in our hospitals. 
 
The Trust has achieved a 64 % reduction in C. diff cases this quarter (April - June 2009) compared to the same quarter last year.

The figures also show a reduction of 63% in the number of cases of MRSA for this quarter when compared to the same quarter last year.
