Defining clinical audit

An accepted definition of clinical audit is:

"a quality improvement process that seeks to improve patient care and outcomes through systematic review of care against explicit criteria and the implementation of change." Principles for Best Practice in Clinical Audit (2002, NICE/CHI)

Operational definitions of Clinical Audit, Research, Service Evaluation and Service Improvement activity have been agreed between the Trust's Clinical Governance Manager, Research & Development Manager and Head of Innovation (September 2007).  You can view these as part of the Trust's Policy on Clinical Audit.
