Following a competitive interview process, the board and membership council have unanimously agreed to Roberts appointment, with immediate effect.

Bristol Eye Hospital ophthalmologist wins prestigious national sight award

Miss Clare Bailey, consultant ophthalmologist at the Bristol Eye Hospital, is to receive the best practitioner of the year award in the clinical services category from the Macular Disease Society, for the untiring work she does with the visually impaired. According to Mrs. Kitts, head of Bristols Macular Disease support group, Clare Bailey is much appreciated by all her patients at the Bristol Eye Hospital for both her professional expertise and her warm and friendly personality.

Clinical research centre open for bookings

Researchers from across the scientific disciplines are being invited to apply for grants for use of a new multi-million clinical research facility in Bristol.

The £6.4m Clinical Research and Imaging Centre (CRIC Bristol), managed in partnership between the University of Bristol and its main NHS partner University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, will house a state-of-the-art 3T Siemens Skyra MRI scanner along with four clinical research rooms and a two-bedded fully-equipped sleep and physiological monitoring facility.

HRH Prince Michael of Kent will celebrate 200 years of visionary care at Bristol Eye Hospital by unveiling a commemorative plaque on Wednesday 16 June.

Young patients become cartoon characters to help others through treatment

Children who have received radiotherapy at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre have taken part in an Aardman animation to show others what it is like to have the treatment.

Four children from the West Country and two from the Midlands have had their voices recorded and given to animated characters that feature in the short information film called One of a Kind!

Public encouraged to ˜Know Your Pulse

The NHS in Bristol is urging people to learn how to check their own pulse as part of a national campaign to help prevent future health problems including strokes.

The ˜Know Your Pulse campaign is being launched as part of Arrhythmia Awareness Week which runs from 7 to 13 June 2010. The pulse is one of the easiest ways of identifying potential cardiac arrhythmias.

Two public awareness events will be taking place in Bristol on Thursday 10th June.

Health services in Bristol have urged people in Bristol to take care this Bank Holiday and to avoid going to hospital emergency departments unnecessarily.

Hospitals in Bristol city centre have already been exceptionally busy this month and are often busy on bank holidays.

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is one of the CHKS 40Top Hospitals 2010. The CHKS Top Hospitals Programme is now in its tenth year and it is the only data-driven set of awards in the UK using analysis of nationally available data sets to determine winners in each category.

The winners were announced at an awards ceremony in London hosted by CHKS, the UKs leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services.
