Outpatient services
We offer a range of general and specialist outpatient hepatology
services, which run from the Bristol Royal Infirmary, Weston
General Hospital and South Bristol Community Hospital and some
consultations take place via telephone.
Referrals from GPs are triaged by a consultant hepatologist
based on clinical need and you may see a doctor or a clinical nurse
specialist. We regularly review our waiting list based on clinical
urgency and to see which patients are overdue follow up. This means
we can effectively monitor your disease.
There are general and special interest hepatology clinics led by
different consultant hepatologists. You may be streamed into a
particular clinic such as viral hepatitis, stable cirrhosis or
liver transplant. You may see specialist nurses or registrars in
clinic instead of or as well as the consultant. Outside of the
clinic, your care may be discussed in a multi-disciplinary team
meeting or 'MDT'.
UHBW also has a comprehensive outreach service, and lead the Bristol and Severn Hepatitis C Operational Delivery
Network, aimed at providing testing and treatment for hepatitis
C to work towards elimination, and the Alright My Liver programme aimed at
early detection of liver disease.
