What we do
The Dietetics department works with children and their families
who have a condition where nutrition and special diets can be used
as treatment.
Many of these conditions result in:
- Growth concens
- poor oral intake
- Swallow concerns
- Altered requirements for energy (calories) and nutrients
Children referred to us are assessed to identify the most
appropriate dietary management. A dietary treatment plan will be
recommend and include advice on how to carry this out at home.
Dietitians will also monitor your child's growth and
development, ensuring that the dietary management plan is meeting
their needs. We work closely with other members of the
multidisciplinary team in the hospital as well as updating GPs,
health visitors, school nurses and other health workers who can
help support you once you are at home.
See the
Clinical specialities tab for more information on what
we do.
Dietitians are the only qualified and regulated health
professionals with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) that
assess, diagnose and treat diet and nutritional problems for
both individuals and the wider public. We work with you to
identify practical guidance that will help you to manage
your dietary health (British Dietetic Association).
