Day Case Unit B504
The Rheumatology Day Unit consists of
four comfortable and adjustable chairs and one hospital bed for
patients to use whilst receiving their intravenous medication for a
wide range of conditions. There is a calm atmosphere and it is a
relaxed environment for you to receive your treatment.
The unit is staffed by trained Nurses
who are able to perform the necessary pre-infusion checks and help
to answer any queries or concerns you may have. Before your
first infusion, a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Doctor will tell you
how long you can expect to be on the Day Unit for and how
frequently you will need to attend. You will also be informed as to
when you will need blood tests completing prior to starting
treatment and how often thereafter.
We do not routinely have food or
snacks available so please feel free to bring in food to eat,
particularly if your infusion is for a significant length of
time.
There is a Brewnell kiosk, offering a
range of hot and cold drinks and snacks. This is located on level 1
of the King Edward Building (near B101) which you may wish to visit
before your appointment. You may also wish to bring in books or
electronic devices (with headphones) to keep yourself
entertained. There is free hospital WiFi available.
If you need to cancel or rearrange
your appointment with the Day Unit, please contact us as soon as
possible so that we may offer your appointment slot to another
patient.
