Clinics
For patients who we actively contact, we offer a telephone
appointment with a member of the team around 8 weeks after you have
returned home. If needed, we may invite you to a face-to-face or
online video appointment.
We are here to work with you and other
care providers to explore your recovery goals and help you access
the right support.
What happens during a telephone appointment?
You will be called by either a
physiotherapist, occupational therapist or a nurse from the
Critcial Care Follow-up team. During the call, we will:
- Ask how you're getting on physically, emotionally, cognitively,
and socially.
- Listen to any worries or concerns you may have.
- Offer practical advice to support your recovery.
- Arrange help from other healthcare professionals if needed -
for example a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and
language therapist or dietitian.
- Invite you to a face‑to‑face or video appointment if we feel it
would help you.
- Offer a visit back to the ICU if you would find this
helpful.
What happens at a face‑to‑face or video appointment?
During the appointment you will meet with several members of the
team. Depending on your needs this could include an intensive care
consultant, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, nurse, or
clinical psychologist.
If we invite you to one of these appointments, we will:
- Talk with you about your symptoms and how you're feeling.
- Answer any questions you or your family have about your stay in
intensive care.
- Work together to plan the next steps in your recovery.
- Offer a visit back to the ICU if you would find this
helpful.
Bringing someone with you
We recommend you are joined by a family member or friend for the
telephone, video and face-to-face appointments. They can support
you in having your questions answered and they may have questions
of their own.
