Implantable loop recorders
An implantable loop recorder (ILR) is used to monitor heart
rhythms for months at a time in people who don't
experience symptoms very often. Some rhythm disturbances
(arrhythmias) occur less frequently than others, making it
difficult to detect them with ECG or 24-hour monitoring.
An ILR is a thin metal device that is inserted just beneath
the skin in the chest area. Once implanted, an ILR can determine
whether symptoms are related to a heart rhythm problem.
