Dr Angus
Nightingale, is a consultant cardiologist at the Bristol
Heart Institute and is the clinical lead for the heart failure
service in Bristol. "I have been looking after heart failure
patients since 1999 when I started doing research in Cardiff and
Oxford. My thesis in 2002 was on why patients with heart failure
have such severe feelings of tiredness and limited exercise
capacity. I have published over 15 scientific papers on aspects of
heart failure. I have active research in several areas, including
looking at new medications and devices that might improve outcomes
in chronic heart failure, as well as links with the cardiac
surgeons and using stem cells to improve cardiac function. I take
part in the regular heart failure clinics at the Bristol Heart
Institute and South Bristol Community Hospital and I work closely
with the heart failure specialist nurses and GPs. I am committed to
improving the care of heart failure patients in Bristol and the
South West."
Dr Yasmin Ismail, is a consultant cardiologist
at th Bristol Heart Institute. "I studied medicine at the
University of Bristol, qualifying in 1997 with Honours. My
years as a junior doctor were spent in the South-West and I
completed my MD locally. I returned to the Bristol Heart
Institute in 2010 to complete my cardiology training before being
appointed as a consultant with an interest in heart failure in
2014. I work between the hospital and community to improve
heart failure care for our patients wherever they are. In
partnership with Bristol Community Health, I deliver a weekly
diagnostic clinic in Horfield and Whitchurch. I am actively
involved in the Bristol Heart Institute's cardiovascular research
department, recruiting patients to both international studies and
smaller, local projects. Working with Dr Nightingale and our
heart failure nurses, in the hospital and the community, our team
are passionate about improving the standards of heart failure care
for our patients in Bristol and the South-West."
