Cardiac clinical wound specialist nurses
The Cardiac Wound Care Service is run by Clinical Nurse
Specialists, Sarah Aland and Molly Peters.
As a team we provide expert wound care advice, assessment
and treatment of complex wounds for patients who develop
problematic surgical wounds following cardiac surgery.
In line with The National Institute for Health and Care
Excellence (NICE) we aim to ensure that all patients have access to
the highest quality patient care. We continually monitor our
incidence of surgical site infection (SSI) within the BHI. We
provide feedback to the relevant staff and continually work with
the surgical teams to implement preventative models of clinical
care aimed at reducing our SSI incidence. As part of this we
provide advice and guidance regarding pre-operative assessment
prior to surgery to identify those patients who may be at high risk
of developing wound problems.
We provide a BHI based nurse-led wound clinic for patients
who have been discharged home with complex wounds, or those who
have developed a problematic wound post discharge. Patients may be
required to attend our clinic on one occasion or on multiple
occasions in order that we can continually assess and monitor the
wound healing process. We also advise Community Nursing teams on
the specific wound management and appropriate dressing
choices.
Our Wound Clinic Service runs five days a week
(Monday-Friday). If you have been discharged and have a wound
concern you can contact us on 01173 426606, we will discuss the
concern with you and invite you to attend our Wound Clinic if
required.
