Cardiac rehabilitation is an evidence-based exercise, education
and relaxation programme, tailored to the individual. This can help
create a positive impact on their wellbeing and quality of
life.
Following a cardiac event you will be referred to your local
cardiac rehabilitation team. The team will assess you and discuss
the cardiac rehabilitation options which are appropriate for you.
You will be given guidance and support on how to exercise safely
and effectively. You will also receive lifestyle education
including dietary advice and you will have the opportunity to ask
questions.
What are the benefits of cardiac rehab?
Cardiac rehabilitation helps to manage the risk factors of
coronary heart disease and reduces the chance of hospital
readmissions and further heart events.
Cardiac rehabilitation can also improve your;
- Confidence and help you return to normal life
after a cardiac event.
- Understanding of your heart condition and your
medications.
- Cholesterol, diet, blood pressure and body weight.
- Health, wellbeing, quality of life and life expectancy.
Who is offered cardiac rehab?
The UHBW cardiac rehabilitation team accept referrals from
people who have had a heart attack/ Myocardial Infarct (MI),
Stent/Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) or Coronary Artery
Bypass Grafts (CABG) within the south Bristol and Weston catchment area.
Patients who are out of this catchment area but undergo treatment
within the Bristol Heart Institute are referred onto their local
cardiac rehabilitation service.
