HR - Recruiting staff and line management
The same process needs to be followed for recruiting new
research staff as for any group of NHS staff, including appropriate
training and appraisals. Generally new staff are appointed at
whichever organisation is best placed to support their career
development. For example, research nurses in the NHS, and research
assistants or research fellows through a university. Project or
programme managers can be employed through either type of
organisation. Students who are registered for a higher degree
should in general be employed by a university, unless they are
already a member of NHS staff and are intending to return to that
role (with their line manager's support) at the end of the
degree.
Guidance is available on 'HRWeb' on the UH Bristol intranet, or
on the relevant university HR pages. Honorary contracts or research
passports may be needed for staff employed through a
university.
