St Michael's Hospital theatre unit provides obstetric,
gynaecology, breast and ENT services and consists of a suite of
five theatres, a six bedded recovery unit and two bedded obstetric
recovery ward.
The theatre suite employs about forty staff providing patient
care for an elective and emergency service twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week.
The obstetric theatres are staffed twenty-four hours a day; the
remaining specialities are covered at night by an on-call theatre
team.
St Michael's Hospital is also a respected regional centre for
reproduction and fetal medicine, infertility treatment and cancer
care. The two obstetric theatres provide care for women requiring
Obstetric emergency and elective surgery, some of whom require
specialised care. The theatre staff work closely with the Central
Delivery Suite.
The theatre unit also specialises in Gynaecological Oncology,
providing care for women requiring complex surgery.
The team has nursing staff, Operating Department Practitioners
of all grades and a theatre clerk. The theatre suite offers a wide
range of clinical and management experience in all aspects of
surgical care, in a research based and caring environment.
