Snowdrop Bereavement Team

Losing a baby is a very difficult time for a family and there will be a lot of decisions that may need to be made during this time. People deal with this grief in different ways. Our team is here to support you through your loss.

We care for families who have booked to give birth at St. Michael's Hospital who experience pregnancy or baby loss from 16 weeks up until an early neonatal death, this can include:

  • miscarriage
  • a termination for fetal anomaly
  • a stillbirth
  • neonatal death

We are also here to support you, as a parent, through subsequent pregnancies if you have suffered a loss in a previous pregnancy and would like our support.

Getting in touch

The Snowdrop team can be contacted on 07747764997 or you can email us at: snowdrop@uhbw.nhs.uk. You can contact us any time, day or night, but this phone number and email address will only be monitored Monday to Friday between 9am-5pm and we will get back to you as soon as we are able to.

You can contact us via text message or phone call. We also offer home visits, meeting for a walk, or coffee, or Teams chats depending on what works best for you. We can support with signposting to charities, counselling and psychological services as well as helping to answer questions about funerals, postmortems, and financial services. Our team is also able to sit in on any appointments such as scans, consultant appointments and follow up meetings.

If you are due to come in to deliver a bereaved baby then we can discuss the process of what to expect, go through a birth plan with you and discuss memory making options so you are more prepared when you arrive. We can also support you to spend time with your baby after their delivery or their death.

You may have been given a book called Sands Bereavement Support Book and this will provide information about the next steps. We understand it can feel very overwhelming having to read and process this information. We are always here to go through anything that you are unsure about.
