Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology
Our service provides age appropriate care to children and
adolescents with gynaecological problems of all types in a
welcoming and supportive environment. We also offer support through
the period of transition from children's to adult services for
those patients requiring longer-term input, and work closely with
our colleagues at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
We see children/young people with the following conditions:
- Period problems
- Vaginal discharge
- Vaginal bleeding in children
- Vulval conditions
- Pelvic pain
- Ovarian conditions
- DSD (Differences in Sex Development)
What to expect when you have an appointment with us
Your appointment with us may be face-to-face at St. Michael's
Hospital or over the telephone or by video call.
You will speak to, or see, a member of the team who will discuss
the reason you have been referred to us and will ask you some
questions to help us make a plan for your ongoing care. This might
include a scan at a later date or some blood tests.
We rarely need to examine you as part of your assessment. If we
feel that an examination would be helpful or an essential part of
your care we would discuss this with you, and it would be when you
feel ready for it.
Some older girls may want to have part or all of the
consultation alone, and may want to ask personal questions. This is
always kept confidential unless you share with any information
which could be putting you at risk. This will always be discussed
with you.
