St Michael's midwifery-led birthing unit
We have
created a new midwifery led birthing unit at St Michael's Hospital
that will offer a safe alternative to giving birth in a traditional
hospital setting or at home.
The birthing unit will be suitable for
women with uncomplicated pregnancies who wish to give birth in a
home from home, non-medical environment, ask your local community
midwifery team for advice.
The unit opened on 17 June 2013 and in the second year
since opening we welcomed into the world
- 996 babies
- 322 of these have been water babies
- 326 women have had a physiological third stage (delivered their
placenta's with no drugs to assist)
Our visitor's book is filling up rapidly and comments
include:
- "I felt calm, relaxed and reassured"
- "A relaxed home from home ambience"
- "Many thanks for restoring my faith in natural birth"
- "You made me feel confident and able to achieve the birth I
wanted"
