Physiotherapy

We aim to see every patient for approximately 20 minutes during their pre-op clinic appointment for:

  •  Advice on breathing exercises and early mobilisation post op to maximise recoveryPhysiotherapy 7 Jun 12 ALV1069
  •  Check mobility and respiratory history
  •  Go through pelvic floor and abdominal muscle exercises
  •  Advice for preparing and modifying activities of daily living post op

We see pre-operative patients who are having:

  • Any procedure involving a laparotomy
  • TAH Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (removal of womb)
  • LAVH Laparoscopy assisted vaginal hysterectomy
  • BSO Bi-lateral Salpingo Oophrectomy (removal of ovaries)
  • Abdominal Myomectomy Laparotomy (removal of fibroids)
  • Anterior and Posterior repair (start pelvic floor in one week if comfortable)

Post-operatively the physiotherapy team do not routinely see everyone on the ward. Nursing staff will refer patients post-operatively if respiratory/mobility problems are identified.
