Physiotherapy
We aim to see every patient for approximately 20 minutes during
their pre-op clinic appointment for:
- Advice on breathing exercises and early mobilisation post
op to maximise recovery

- Check mobility and respiratory history
- Go through pelvic floor and abdominal muscle
exercises
- Advice for preparing and modifying activities of daily
living post op
Please find all relevant booklets and advice on the Ward 78's
website.
We see pre-operative patients who are having:
- Any procedure involving a laparotomy
- TAH Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (removal of womb)
- LAVH Laparoscopy assisted vaginal hysterectomy
- BSO Bi-lateral Salpingo Oophrectomy (removal of ovaries)
- Abdominal Myomectomy Laparotomy (removal of fibroids)
- Anterior and Posterior repair (start pelvic floor in one
week if comfortable)
Post-operatively the physiotherapy team do not routinely see
everyone on the ward. Nursing staff will refer patients
post-operatively if respiratory/mobility problems are
identified.
