St Michael's midwifery led birthing unit
The Midwife Led Unit (MLU) at St Michael's Hospital offers a
safe alternative to giving birth in a traditional hospital setting
or at home.
The birthing unit is suitable for women with uncomplicated
pregnancies who wish to give birth in a home from home, non-medical
environment, ask your local community midwifery team for
advice.
The Midwife Led Unit was opened in June 2013. The unit has been
designed to help you feel comfortable and relaxed. Facilities
include:
- 4 en-suite birth rooms
- Each room has dimmers lights and cd player with iPod dock
- Choice of birthing aids - balls, stools, mats and bean bags to
encourage active birth
- Water pools in 2 of the birth rooms for relaxation and/or to
give birth in water
- Use of a communal kitchen and dining area where light snacks
will be available
