St Michael's midwifery led birthing unit

New unit

The Midwife Led Unit (MLU) at St Michael's Hospital offers a safe alternative to giving birth in a traditional hospital setting or at home.

The birthing unit is suitable for women with uncomplicated pregnancies who wish to give birth in a home from home, non-medical environment, ask your local community midwifery team for advice.

 

 

New unit 1

 

The Midwife Led Unit was opened in June 2013. The unit has been designed to help you feel comfortable and relaxed. Facilities include:

  • 4 en-suite birth rooms
  • Each room has dimmers lights and cd player with iPod dock
  • Choice of birthing aids - balls, stools, mats and bean bags to encourage active birth
  • Water pools in 2 of the birth rooms for relaxation and/or to give birth in water
  • Use of a communal kitchen and dining area where light snacks will be available
