Alright my Liver?
What is Alright My Liver?
Liver cirrhosis (permanent scarring) can be present without any
symptoms for many years. We want to diagnose liver cirrhosis as
early as possible to give people the best chance to slow
progression and prevent liver cancer, which can be a complication
of cirrhosis. Alright My Liver are targeted outreach, ran as part
of a wider NHS funded pilot, aiming to bring focused liver health
checks to the South West.
Most cases of liver cirrhosis are preventable, and many of us
are at risk. Among the most common risk factors are.
- High alcohol consumption over many years (alcohol related liver
disease)
- Too much fat stored in the liver - often alongside conditions
like type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure (non-alcoholic or
metabolic associated fatty liver disease)
- Viral hepatitis

Successes
More than 7,000 individuals across the South West who are at
risk of developing liver cirrhosis have now been successfully
screened.
Those identified with cirrhosis following diagnosis are being
closely monitored through our specialist liver clinics, where they
receive regular follow-up care and undergo six-monthly liver cancer
surveillance tests, ensuring that any potential complications are
detected and managed at an early stage.
