Children’s disability support

Paediatric Disability Service

If you have a learning disability, autism, lifelong physical or sensory disability, you may be able to access support from the paediatric disability service.

This team is made up of two clinical nurse specialists:

Molly Waters - Paediatric Learning Disability and Autism Clinical Nurse Specialist

Martin Wood - Paediatric Disability Clinical Nurse Specialist

Support at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children

This team helps make sure children and young people have equal access to healthcare by:

  • Acting as apoint of contactfor families, carers, and hospital staff.
  • Working closely with hospital teams to plan care and support for each child.
  • Recommending and supporting with reasonable adjustments to make hospital visits, appointments, and overnight stays easier and more comfortable.
  • Providing support on the ward, including helping staff understand a child's needs and how to look after then effectively.
  • Liaising with other professionals and servicessuch as the Play Team, Music Therapy, or community teams to make sure care is joined up.

Local Offer

Every local authority must provide information about services for children and young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).This is called the Local Offer.

Bristol Royal Hospital for Children supports families across Bristol and the South West. Each local authority has its own Local Offer, including:

Parent and Carer Support Groups

Local parent and carer support groups are available across the same areas listed above. These groups can offer advice, shared experiences, and emotional support.
