Epilepsy

Sex & Relationships

It is normal to worry about the impact of your epilepsy on a relationship. You might be unsure of how to talk to your partner about your condition but doing so may help you feel more relaxed. You can find ideas for how to do this here.

You may also be worried about the impact of your epilepsy on your sexual relationship, such as if you have a seizure during sex. It is rare to have a seizure triggered by sex but may help to talk to your partner or team about any concerns you have.

You can find out more on the Epilepsy Action website, with information from puberty to sex and pregnancy. If you are male you can read more here, or for information if you are female you can access information here. If you are female it can be important to think about contraception and pregnancy particularly due to the impact of your medication.
