Epilepsy

Education & Work

You may be starting to think about what you would like to study or have a career in mind that you are working towards. Having epilepsy shouldn't prevent you from accessing most career options and there are legal guidelines to stop employers discriminating against you.

The only exceptions are you are not able to join the armed forces and if your epilepsy is not well controlled you may not be able to pursue some careers. This can include working at height or in transport, such as being a pilot or driving a train. A risk assesssment will help identify if you are able to pursue options such as these. Decisions are based around making sure that you and others are safe.

If you want to find out more or discuss your options then Young Epilepsy have helpline you can contact for a confidential chat, 01342 831342 or can be emailed at  helpline@youngepilepsy.org.uk .
