Hearing aids
A behind the ear hearing aid is an electronic device that works by:
- Picking up sounds through a microphone
- Making these sounds louder electronically within the hearing aid
- Sending the amplified sounds into the ear via tubing and an ear mould
You can continue to use the same behind the ear hearing aids when you transfer to adult services but might find the adult team need to update them at some stage. The adult audiology service will charge you for lost hearing aids. You can read more about looking after your behind the ear hearing aids and what to do if you have any problems here.
