Cancer pathway
When a patient has tests for possible oesophageal or gastric
cancer, they begin on a pathway or journey that can sometimes last
many weeks or months before the full series of tests and treatments
has been completed. This is illlustrated in the diagram below.
During this journey, there can be times when individuals with
cancer, and their families, are waiting to have further tests, to
receive the results of those test, or to start treatment. We know
this can be a very difficult time. There can be quite a lot of
uncertainty to live with. As a team, we will do our best to support
you throughout your journey. You will be given a keyworker (one of
the cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists) who will act as your point
of contact to update you about appointments, tests and treatments,
as well as answering many of the questions that patients ask.
