Nutrition
Some people find that symptoms from their gallstones are much
improved by reducing dietary fat intake as much as possible. A low
fat diet may also help with weight loss if appropriate for you.
If you are having surgery to remove your gallbladder and you are
significantly overweight, with a body mass index of 40 or more, you
will need to follow a special diet for 2 weeks before your
operation to make the operation safer for you. This is called the
'Liver reducing diet' and further information about this can be
found here. Your doctor or the preoperative team
will explain if you need to follow this diet, which should only be
done for the specified period of time on the advice of your
clinical team.
