Burns outreach team
The Children's Burns Outreach Team
provides:
- Wound care and advice to burn injured children and their
families across the South West and Wales ODN.
- Wound care and burns education to professionals providing a
service to children who sustain a burn injury, from acute injury
through to rehabilitation across the South West and Wales ODN.
- Burn and Scald prevention and awareness education
programme.
- Allocated key worker scheme for long term patients, ensuring
continuity of care.
The team offers the following services:
- A link and support between the hospital and the community
services, including schools and nurseries.
- Regular follow-up appointments for wound care, these may take
place in the home, school or other setting as required.
- Specialist burn wound care and advice.
- Specialist burn scar assessment and management, to include
silicone treatment, pressure garment therapy and laser
treatment.
- Individualised burn physiotherapy support if required.
- Psychological support and referral to specialist services if
required.
- A tailor-made School Reintegration programme for children
returning to school following a significant injury.
- Provide information and access to Frenchay After Burn
Children's Club (FAB Club) for ongoing support.
Who can be referred to the service?
- Any child that has accessed the burns service at Bristol
Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC).
- Any child that has previously sustained a burn injury and lives
in the South West ODN. A referral letter (from your GP) will
be required to the burn service at BRHC Hospital.
