Information for parents
While you are waiting for your child's first or follow up
appointment there are many resources and information that can
provide you with useful information. We recognise that making
changes to diet or lifestyle can be met with resistance and at
times behaviour you may find challenging. The links below are just
a few places that could provide you with additional support in
between appointments with consultants and other members of the
team.
These
NHS webinars are a valuable source of information in providing
support to children and young people/families experiencing excess
weight who, are waiting to receive care.
These videos are aimed at anyone who is:
- Waiting for CEW clinic appointments
- Being discharged/step down from CEW clinics
- Unable to attend CEW clinics/those who do not fit the referral
criteria
The
NHS website provides guidance for parents on supporting your
child with managing their weight.
Obesity
UK provides information about support groups for people and
families experiencing obesity.
Bristol City Council offers
parenting courses for parents of children aged 3 to 17 years
old, including support for parents of children with behaviour that
challenges.
Children's centres also offer parenting support for parents with
children under 5. You can find your local Children's Centre on the
gov.uk website.
Family Lives offers a free online parenting course for parents
of primary school aged children, and younger.
The
Positive Parenting leaflet from the NSCPP provides guidance on
positive parenting strategies.

to help parents and carers talk to children about weight.
The
NHS Live Well website has helpful tips and information on
looking after your children's teeth.
