Neonatal Physiotherapy
We provide both an inpatient and outpatient service for babies
that may be at risk of development problems.
Your child maybe referred to a physiotherapist as an inpatient
if:
- They were born prematurely (under 30 weeks)
- They were under 1kg in weight
- They receive therapeutic hypothermia
- Other orthopaedic or neurological conditions
We can provide early assessment and advice regarding handling
and positioning. We may also ask for your consent to take a
general movement video which helps form part of our ongoing
assessment.
We work alongside the consultants in the follow up clinic to
help monitor your baby's development.
We can provide additional physiotherapy assessment and advice as
an outpatient. We will also refer onto our colleagues in the
community if your child needs longer term support.
These children will then receive a Bayley III assessment at 2
years old. This reviews five key developmental areas of
cognition, language and motor function.
