Cystic Fibrosis
Physiotherapy for Cystic Fibrosis
The regional Cystic Fibrosis (CF) specialist centre is based at
Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
The physiotherapists work as part of the close knit
multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, dietitian, social
worker and psychologists.
We work closely with children and their families at home,
nursery and school and also review all children within our
outpatient service at 8-9week intervals. If an inpatient admission
is required physiotherapy forms a key part of their treatment
package.
As an inpatient your child will be assessed and treatments will
be planned on a daily basis. An inpatient stay provides a great
opportunity to develop physiotherapy skills which may include new
techniques or a chance to use some types of treatment only
available in hospital. Development of a good nebuliser schedule may
also be appropriate. Exercise is also a key part of physiotherapy
with personalised activities planned for each child.
Other aspects of CF physiotherapy also include assessment and
treatment of
- Posture
- Continence
- Musculoskeletal issues
