Barth syndrome is a very rare genetic condition primarily affecting males, approximately 1 in 300,000 births.

The main features of Barth syndrome are:

  • Cardiomyopathy, which may require a heart transplant
  • Neutropenia - many boys will be on GCSF to maintain their neutrophil count.
  • Global muscular weakness
  • Decreased exercise capacity
  • Fatigue
