The Observatory - E308

Coming into hospital can sometimes seem scary but there's no need to worry.

This page tells you all about our ward so you'll know what to expect when you arrive.

If you can't find the information you're looking for call LIAISE on 0117 342 8065 or ask your parent or carer to call.

Things your parents and carers may need to know.

What's the ward like?

Ward 39 clockThe Observatory is on level 3 of the children's hospital which is the orange floor.  It's not quite the same as our other wards. If you become unwell unexpectedly or have an accident and need to go to the emergency department, you might stay on this ward if the doctors need to look after you for a while.

Most patients only stay on The Observatory for a few hours until the doctors decide if you need to go to one of our other wards or whether you can go home.

We have three cubicles which we use to keep patients safe who might have an infection or who could develop one, and the rest of the ward is divided into bays where you will be able to see and talk to other patients.  There is a shared bathroom for patients.  The nurses will show you where they are.  A parent or carer will be allowed to stay with you while you are in hospital and there are special facilities for them too. Use the link above the picture to find out more.

Who will look after me?

Rebecca looks after the emergency department and looks after this ward too. The rest of the team includes nurses and nursing assistants, emergency nurse practitioners, receptionists, ward clerks, occupational therapists, a pharmacist, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, hotel services assistants and of course the doctors too.  You might also meet some students who are training to be doctors or nurses.
