Research/Trial Team
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust has
a research/trials department. From time to time, haemoglobinopathy
clinical trials are carried out and a member of the clinical trial
team will contact patients once these trials are being offered in
Bristol.

days Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. (We do not work
bank holidays).
For any emergencies (for patients already known to our service)
please call 0117 342 2011 - our same day emergency care unit
(SDEC). This is a 24-hour helpline. Please only contact this
emergency number if you are in a sickle cell crisis.
For patients visiting Bristol or new to the area, not yet known
to our service, please call 999 out of hours if you are in a
medical emergency. During office hours please contact us on the
office or mobile numbers above.
GPs or other healthcare professionals
For any general enquiries please use the same telephone

GPs can also contact us via Advice & Guidance through ERS
(electronic referral system).
For any emergencies or out of hours please call 0117 923 0000
and ask for the adult haematology registrar on call or adult
haematology consultant on call.
