Visiting a patient

Before your visit

If you are feeling unwell, particularly if you have a cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms, diarrhoea and/or vomiting, please do not come to our hospitals as a visitor. If you have an appointment, please ask your clinical team for advice.

When can I visit?

A maximum of 2 visitors at a bedside are welcome at any time on our adult patient wards.

Please be aware you may be asked to leave the bed area at times if the patient needs personal or medical care.

For visitor information at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and maternity services at St Michael's Hospital, please speak to a member of the ward.

During your visit

When visiting any of our hospitals, please make sure you practice good hand hygiene by regularly washing your hands and using hand sanitiser. This helps keep those in our care and our colleagues safe.

In some areas of our hospitals, you may be asked to wear a mask if you are able to.

Our visitor guidance is applied with as much flexibility and compassion as possible, and staff will consider each patient's needs on an individual basis. If you have any questions, please contact the ward.
