Catering for special diets

If you have a food allergy or intolerance, please let us know. Staff who come to take your food order will have information about food allergens in the dishes you are offered to ensure you have the information you need to make a safe choice.

Our breakfast trolley has a selection of cereals, toast, yoghurts and fruit; you can ask the person offering you breakfast about the allergens found in the breakfast items we offer.

Snack items are generally provided individually wrapped, with allergen information printed on the packaging.

Staff working with food have received training on food allergy management.

Diabetes (adults only)

We identify dishes that are lower in fat, sugar and salt with the code 'H' on all our main menus, these will be suitable for people with diabetes who usually choose healthily options. If you usually count carbohydrates please ask a member of the ward team for the carbohydrate counting information.

Vegetarian and vegan

Our main menus are coded with V (vegetarian) and VG (vegan). You will find a minimum of one hot vegetarian meal per lunch and evening meal. The vegan menu also details options for breakfast and between meal snacks.

We are aiming to increase our provision of vegan options on our main menu, so you will occasionally see the code VG' next to a dish on our main menu. However, if you are vegan please ask to see a copy of our separate vegan menu.

If you have a food allergy/intolerance please speak to the member of staff taking your order, who will be able to advise you on allergens found in our dishes.

Meals from our 2 week cycle menu are only tested for presence of gluten, therefore, for the majority of other allergies we provide information on whether food allergens have been included as an ingredient or not/if the dish may contain an allergen.

If you have a severe allergy you may wish to choose from the allergen free menu, where dishes have been tested and are free from all of the 14 legally declarable allergens. Dishes are also cooked individually sealed in our ovens, eliminating the risk of accidental cross contamination.
