About
Food is a key part of a
patient's treatment. Here at University Hospitals Bristol and
Weston NHS Foundation Trust, we know that it is vital to ensure we
offer a selection of nutritious, appetising and well-presented food
to assist you in your recovery.
Our catering and dietetic
teams work closely together to ensure that foods selected for our
menu will provide not only the right nutrients to promote recovery
but are also tasty and appetising.
In addition to meeting the
strict requirements of NHS Hospital Food Standards, all our menu
options have been carefully selected to provide a range suitable
for a variety of conditions and preferences. Our menus:
- provide a choice of
appetising dishes to meet the needs of the population we
serve
- are free of undesirable
additives
- cater for different
religious and cultural beliefs and for those who require
specialised diets.
Mealtimes
matter
Meal timings can vary between
wards. To let you know a mealtime is coming we will ring a bell or
come and tell you it is nearly mealtime just before
service.
Family and carers are welcome
to help at mealtimes; however, we ask that other visitors leave the
ward during the meal service to allow you to eat your meal
uninterrupted.
- Breakfast service will
commence between 7:30am and 8:30am.
- Lunch service will commence
between 12:00pm and 1:30pm.
- Evening meal service will
commence between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.
A selection of hot and cold
beverages will be served throughout the day.
Biscuits are available to
accompany your mid-morning drink and a choice of biscuits or cake
mid-afternoon. If you have a special diet we will endeavour to
provide you with a suitable option.
If you need a snack between
our regular mealtimes then please do ask a member of staff as we
will usually be able to access items such as cereals, toast,
yoghurt, cheese and biscuits, tinned soup or beans as between-meal
snacks.
If you miss a mealtime, a
snack pack, including a sandwich, piece of fruit and yoghurt is
available on request 24 hours a day. In some areas we will also be
able to provide you with a cooked meal, please ask a member of
staff.
If you require any extra help
at meal times our staff are committed to ensuring that your stay at
UHBW is as comfortable and trouble-free as possible. If at any time
you need extra help please let a member of the nursing staff know,
for example:
- Assistance in choosing a
suitable meal for your dietary requirements.
- Help cutting up your food or
opening packaging.
- Extra support or assistance
with eating.
Bringing food into the
hospital
Patient safety is our primary
concern, some foods may not be suitable and their introduction into
the hospital may do more harm than good. View our
guidelines for bringing food into hospital.
