University Hospitals Bristol offers health professionals new research opportunity
Health professionals have the opportunity of working
towards the award of a PhD whilst carrying out high quality
clinical research in Bristol. The Clinical Training
Fellowships are being offered by University Hospitals Bristol NHS
Foundation Trust (UH Bristol) in partnership with the University of
Bristol and UWE Bristol.
A panel of representatives from the Trust and the
universities has shortlisted seven patient centred projects which
are currently being advertised for PhD studentships. The closing
date for applications is Wednesday 30 November and the expectation
is that the successful applicants will start their studies in early
2012.
Research Director at UH Bristol, Professor David Wynick,
said: "This type of collaboration between an NHS Trust and its
academic partners is truly innovative. Our university partners are
critical to its success and each project has joint NHS and academic
co-supervisors."
"The studentships are open to doctors, nurses, and allied
health professionals interested in clinical
research."
Andrew Dick, Professor of Ophthalmology and Faculty
Research Director for Medicine and Dentistry at the University of
Bristol, said: "We were very impressed with the quality of
applications, and there was a good balance between medical and
non-medical projects."
Professor Robin Means, Associate Dean (Research,
Enterprise, and Public Engagement) at UWE Bristol, said: "We are
delighted to be part of this scheme that will enhance clinical
research across Bristol."
