Trust statement - junior doctor contract
Following recent media coverage regarding this Trust's position
on the decision to impose a new contract on junior doctors, the
Trust has confirmed it does not reflect this Trust's view on the
matter.
Sir David Dalton invited all Trusts to provide him with a
mandate to present a "fair and reasonable" best and final offer to
the BMA. The Trust supported that step in the belief that such a
move would result in resolution of the impasse. Sir David's letter
did not reference any suggestion of an imposition of a contract on
juniors, had it done so, this Trust would not have given its
support.
It is highly regretful that this offer was unable to bring the
dispute to resolution, which we believe is in the best interest of
all parties and most importantly in the best interest of our
patients who rely upon the NHS to provide services 24 hours a day,
7 days a week. The Trust will continue to work constructively, as
it has to date, with all our juniors to ensure as smooth a
transition as possible to whatever new arrangements are
introduced.
Junior doctors are an invaluable part of our workforce and we
are deeply sorry that this Trust's position was misrepresented in
the media.
