Success at the HEE Star Awards
Congratulation to our winners and finalists at this year's South
West Health Education England Star Awards!
Tom Cave and Lauren Padfield won in the 'Hearing the Patient
Voice' category for their Macmillan Allied Health Professional
cancer rehabilitation project, which aims to find out what unmet
needs there are amongst cancer patients and put together pilot
programmes to address them.
Tom Cave said: "We run three programmes, which are all designed
and focus upon listening to the needs of patients.
"We are delighted to have won this award and it is a great
honour to be recognised for our work amongst so many outstanding
projects in the South West. We feel very fortunate to have the
opportunity to help so many individuals living with and beyond
cancer thanks to funding from Macmillan Cancer Support."
The STITCH team won the prestigious Chair's team award,
recognising the work they do to help educate health professionals
in emergency departments and GP surgeries in improving care for
those who self-harm. This is done alongside patients, to ensure
that their voice is heard and that patient experience is at the
core of the team's work.
Salena Williams, senior nurse in the liaison psychiatry team,
said: "The STITCH team's work is wide-reaching in its aim to
prevent suicide and reduce incidence of repeat self-harm.
"This award was a completely unexpected surprise, as there is no
shortlist for the Chair's awards. We're so proud of the work we do
to help train other medical professionals in recognising and
treating self-harm, particularly as we make sure patient experience
is at the centre of this evidence-based care."
Other UH Bristol finalists were the library team; the Patient
and Doctors as Partners in Learning team, which includes the
patient and public involvement team and the medical education team;
and Rachel Sunley, consultant in paediatric emergency medicine, was
a finalist in the 'Inspiring Educator' category.
