Stop the spread – Help your hospitals to beat norovirus this winter

This winter University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UH Bristol) is reminding visitors who have relatives or friends in hospital to avoid visiting the Trust if they have had symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting in the previous 48 hours.

The winter vomiting bug norovirus is frequently brought into hospitals by visitors or patients and is easily spread by contact with people suffering diarrhoea and vomiting (D&V). If the virus becomes widely spread bays, wards and units may close and as a result restricted visiting enforced.

Richard Brindle, director of infection, prevention and control says: "We do everything we can to prevent and control infection in our hospitals.  We need to remind people to avoid visiting hospital if they have had symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting in the previous 48 hours.

"We understand that people will want to visit family and friends in hospital, but we are asking people to keep visiting to a minimum so that we can continue to provide our patients with the best possible care."
