Stop the spread – Ensure you don’t give an unwanted gift this festive season
University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UH Bristol)
is reminding visitors who have relatives or friends in hospital to
avoid visiting the Trust if they have had symptoms of diarrhoea and
vomiting in the previous 48 hours.
The winter vomiting bug norovirus is frequently brought into
hospitals by visitors or patients and is easily spread by contact
with people suffering diarrhoea and vomiting (D&V).
Richard Brindle, director of infection, prevention and control
says: "If the virus spreads within our hospitals, we are forced to
close bays, wards and units. In addition to limiting the number of
patients we can care for, suffering from norovirus is an unpleasant
experience for patients and staff at any time of year and certainly
not something you'd give someone this Christmas.
"We understand that people will want to visit family and friends
in hospital, but we are asking people not to visit if they are
feeling unwell or have had symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting in
the last 48 hours. This is so that we can stop the spread of
norovirus and continue to provide our patients with the best
possible care."
