Statement from UH Bristol

The Trusts have agreed to look at whether the potential integration of the organisations would deliver benefits for patients by improving access to care and making best use of the clinical workforce across the city.

The case for change, considered by both trust boards in July, contained no assessment of the configuration of A&E departments in the city and the Trusts are clear that two main hospital sites (one at the new Southmead Hospital and one at the BRI campus) are fixed points for the provision of hospital services, including A&E services, for the foreseeable future.

As part of our detailed examination of the benefit of potential integration we will review our joint service strategy.  Any proposals for major service change arising from that review would then be formally developed with the full engagement of clinical staff in Bristol, commissioners, the general public and their representatives.
