Staff help long stay CICU patient celebrate wedding anniversary
Love was in the air on the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) at
the Bristol Heart Institute on Monday 23 September.
Sue has been a CICU patient for 129 days but Monday was her 19th
wedding anniversary. The fact that she wasn't able to leave the
unit didn't stop staff or her husband Dave from ensuring they
celebrated in style.
With the help of cardiac physiotherapists, Caroline Evans and
Liv James, they created a pop-up restaurant with a special table
for two. But you can't have a romantic meal without music, so they brought
in Sue's favourite singer, James Warren from The Korgis to perform
for the couple.
Speaking afterwards Dave said: "A huge thank you has to go to
the fab staff at UH Bristol, especially Caroline and Liv, for going
above and beyond. And a very special thanks to Jim for the
music.
"We had the loveliest of days given the circumstances, one that
will live on in our memories for the right reasons."
Caroline added: "It was an honour to be able to help create a
special evening for Dave and Sue. We wanted to bring some normality
and sense of celebration into their lives. The evening was very
special for all of us and it was a privilege to be part of it. Huge
congratulations to the special couple from us all on CICU."
