New director of finance and information to join UH Bristol in July 2019
Neil Kemsley is to join
University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust as director of
finance and information next summer.
Neil, whose appointment has been ratified by the
Nominations and Appointments Committee of the Trust Board, will
join UH Bristol in July 2019 from University Hospitals Plymouth NHS
Trust, where he is currently director of finance.
He will succeed Paul Mapson as director of
finance and information. Paul, who joined UH Bristol in 1991 and
has been director of finance and information for nearly 17 years,
is retiring in June 2019.
Robert Woolley, chief executive at UH
Bristol, said: "We're delighted that Neil will be joining us next
summer. Neil will bring a wealth of enthusiasm and experience
in healthcare finance across the
NHS.
"Paul's contribution at UH Bristol
has been enormous, as illustrated by his recent Chairman's Award at
our Recognising Success Awards, and I'm delighted he will continue
in the role until the summer to ensure a seamless
transition."
After graduating through the
NHS South West Finance training scheme in 1994, Neil progressed
through the finance ranks at United Bristol Healthcare Trust and
University College London Hospitals before becoming deputy director
of finance at King's College Hospitals and then Portsmouth
Hospitals where he later became director of finance and
investment.
In 2009, after
relocating back to the South West, Neil became director of finance,
contracting and performance in NHS Devon and then for the PCT
cluster for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay. From 2013 to
2015 he worked for NHS England as finance director originally
covering Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and South
Gloucestershire and then, from July 2014, from South
Gloucestershire to the Isles of Scilly. Neil joined Plymouth
Hospitals NHS Trust as director of finance in November
2015.
Neil said:
"Having trained and then began my career at UH Bristol, it has
always been an organisation I have held in the highest
regard. I am delighted to have secured the
appointment as director of finance and information and really
looking forward to contributing to the continued success of both
the Trust and the rest of the health
economy."
