Leading kidney charity delighted to provide gifts for children with kidney disease at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children
This week a huge delivery of toys and craft supplies arrived for
the children at Bristol children's hospital, thanks to a donation
of £400 from the charity Kidney Care UK.
Kidney Care UK has a long relationship with the hospital having
awarded more than £175,000 in grants to Bristol children's hospital
over the last 7 years. These have including the funding a number of
staff posts, renal diet projects, helping support the team at the
Transplant Games and paying for children's activity holidays at
Fairthorne Manor.
Suzan Yianni, Hospital Grants Manager at Kidney Care UK, said:
"We're delighted to be able to donate these toys and crafts for the
children. There are around 1,000 children with kidney disease
across the UK so that often means that they can feel isolated; not
able to do the same things their friends can because of dialysis
and other health issues that kidney disease can cause. Many
children spend a lot of time having dialysis at specialist
hospitals like Bristol so it's an honour to be able to give them
something to help take their minds off dialysis and help bring
smiles to their faces."
Lucy Farkas, hospital play specialist at Bristol children's
hospital said: "We're so grateful for the grants that Kidney Care
UK provide every year; we use the money to provide arts and crafts
materials for our patients and their families to use during their
stays with us and during dialysis. When you're a child being in
hospital can be boring but these activities give them something to
do and feel proud of when they are finished - we also use them to
brighten up patient rooms and make displays on the wards."
