Children’s Christmas party reunites cardiac patients treated at Bristol Children’s Hospital
Children with heart conditions got into the spirit of Christmas
this weekend as the children's cardiac team from Bristol Royal
Hospital for Children hosted a party full of cheer.
Over 120 past patients, who have undergone heart surgery at the
hospital in the past year, attended the event with parents, carers
and siblings. In total, over 300 people joined in the celebrations
which took place in the festively decorated Royal Marriot Hotel on
College Green. The party was generously funded by Bristol
Children's Hospital charity Wallace and Gromit's Grand Appeal and
the venue and disco kindly provided free of charge by the Royal
Marriott Hotel.
Anna Shepherd, deputy director of The Grand Appeal, said: "It
was a pleasure to support this fantastic Christmas celebration once
again this year for cardiac patients and their families. Christmas
is such a special time for families, and it was wonderful to see
them all having lots of fun together."
Families got the opportunity to share their experiences with
each other and reunite with members of the children's cardiac team.
Attendees were treated to a magician, part games and of course
Father Christmas made an appearance.
William Booth, matron for children's heart services and the
intensive care unit at Bristol Children's Hospital, said: "What a
wonderful start to the festive season to see so many children we
have treated over the past year at the Bristol Children's Hospital
looking forward to Christmas with their parents and families, it
makes all our hard work so very rewarding and have the opportunity
to celebrate with them."
