Children and young people praise care in national survey
Children and young people have praised the care they
received at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust in a
national survey.
Children aged 8-15 felt that they were well looked after
at the Trust and that staff were friendly, according to the Care
Quality Commission's (CQC) 2016 Children and young people's
inpatient and day case survey published this week.
The survey, which looks at the experiences of children,
young people and their parents and carers attending hospital for
treatment as an inpatient or day case, also found that the parents
or carers of children aged 0-7 felt they were treated with dignity
and respect and that their child was well looked after.
Overall UH Bristol received scores in 20 questions in the
survey which were better than most other trusts in the country
which provide children's services. The Trust was rated as about the
same as other trusts in the responses to the rest of the
questions.
Carolyn Mills, chief nurse, said: "We are incredibly
encouraged by these results. We're pleased that overall the
responses show that children or their parents or carers feel they
were well looked after by our staff.
"The experiences of our patients and their families is
incredibly important to us as it shows where we're doing well and
where people feel we could be doing better.
"We are continually working to develop our services and to
listen to our patients, parents and carers. We are not complacent
and know there is still plenty more we can do to ensure our
services are as caring and compassionate as possible."
A total of 367 people who received a questionnaire at UH
Bristol responded to the survey.
The Trust scored highly - and better than most other
trusts - in key questions to children and young people aged 8-15,
including one asking children if the people looking after them were
friendly and another asking how well they felt they were looked
after overall in hospital.
UH Bristol was also rated highly - and better than most
other trusts - in key questions to parents and carers of 0-7 year
olds asking if they felt they were treated with dignity and respect
and if their child was well looked after by hospital
staff.
Parents and carers of 0-15 year olds also said their child
had a very good experience overall, rating the Trust highly - and
better than most - for this question.
