BHOC teenager and young adult unit features in BBC Horizon documentary

TYA team

The Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre's teenager and young adult unit, known as Area 61, is one of the key locations for a BBC Horizon documentary.

'Teenagers vs Cancer: A User's Guide' focusses on how care for young people with cancer differs from that for children and older adults, and the development of holistic techniques which take into account the patients' life style.

The staff at Area 61, together with the young people they treat, have developed an online needs assessment tool known as IAM, which covers areas such as mental wellbeing, relationships and finance, so that care teams can have a more well rounded view of the young person and how best to develop their treatment plan.

This film, narrated by actor and comedian Jack Whitehall, tells 11 inspirational stories, revealing how a range of young people have dealt with their cancer diagnosis and the treatment process.

You can catch 'Teenagers vs Cancer: A User's Guide' on Tuesday 26 June, 9.30pm on BBC Two.
