Research & Innovation
The Radiotherapy Physics unit is involved in the research and
development of new and cutting-edge techniques in radiotherapy. For
example, one of the recent projects is looking at radiotherapy dose
painting. To find out more about our projects and
publications click here.
In addition, work to introduce new and highly specialised
technologies eg Volume Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) and 4
dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) is currently ongoing.
In collaboration with the Universities of Bristol and Swansea, a
novel radiation detector device is being developed for real
time monitoring of patient doses during treatment.
Staff participate in national and international scientific
meetings to share knowledge and keep up to date with the latest
developments in the field.
Involvement in clinical trials enables cutting edge treatment
techniques to be adopted and optimised.
The department is involved in the creation and development of a
scientific and administrative computing infrastructure and bespoke
software solutions.
