Specialist techniques
Staff from the RPU are involved in providing the following
specialist techniques:
IMRT & VMAT
Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and Volumetric Modulated
Arc Therapy (VMAT) are techniques which produce highly conformal
plans and minimise the dose to normal tissues.
SABR
Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) involves giving
high doses to tumours over a small number of treatments. It has a
high biological effectiveness and needs specialised imaging to
maintain accuracy of delivery.
TBI
Total Body Irradiation (TBI) is used when patients are being
prepared for a bone marrow transplant in connection with
leukaemia & lymphoma.
