About Us
The Radiotherapy Physics Unit (RPU) provides highly specialised
physics support for the radiotherapy department at Bristol Haematology
& Oncology Centre (BHOC). Radiotherapy uses beams of high
energy x-rays to treat unhealthy cells (usually cancerous tumours)
in the human body. The department currently consists of six linear
accelerators (linacs), a high dose rate brachytherapy unit, a SRS
Gamma Knife Icon unit and two dedicated CT scanners. Clinical
scientists and clinical technologists in Radiotherapy Physics work
closely with oncologists, radiographers and engineers to deliver
safe, accurate and effective radiotherapy treatment to individual
patients.
